Started 5 years ago by members of Emory Entrepreneurship & Venture Management, HackATL has grown to become the largest business hackathon in the southeastern United States. Over 400 students from all over the country each year come together to build a business in 48 hours and pitch it to investors for venture funding.

Project Scope:

5 months planning (May - November)
3 day event in November

Average number of applicants: ~400

MY ROLE: 

Director of Marketing: strategize outreach campaigns and lead team of 20 students for execution.

The nature of this project is 2-pronged in several aspects: channel type and target audience. I developed the framework below to keep track of our plan.

  • Facebook ad outreach to 190k+ targeted audience segment

Reflection

Being a part of this organizing team was probably one of my most rewarding experiences this year. Marketing for such a large-scale event taught me to always consider multiple perspectives (primary and secondary audience) and always lay a groundwork for future growth opportunities. 

What can I say, I enjoyed it so much I decided to step up and become a HackATL Co-Director for 2018!
